Challenge
With a small but skilled security team, Truework needed to secure sensitive personal data at scale while maintaining startup speed. The team faced mounting pressure to proactively identify threats, manage risk across a growing platform, and meet audit and compliance obligations—all without slowing down engineers or relying on fragmented tools and manual workflows.
Proactive risk reduction with limited resources
Truework provides an income verification platform that helps banks, lenders, and background check providers securely and quickly verify an individual’s employment data. Built on principles of privacy and user control, Truework handles sensitive personal information for millions of users. As the company grows, its approach to security is centered on one key idea: do more with less, and do it smartly.
Like many nimble startups, Truework’s security team is small but highly skilled. That’s why they focus their limited resources on high-leverage work—building a strong foundation of security baselines, empowering engineers, and staying ahead of threats with proactive insight rather than reactive firefighting.
“We have incredibly capable engineers solving hard problems,” says Patrick Albert, VP of Engineering and Security at Truework. “What I need is a way to give them the context and tools to solve security challenges without slowing them down. Kenzo Security helps us do exactly that.”
Security as a force multiplier
Truework implemented Kenzo Security to unify their security environment, provide centralized visibility, and streamline incident detection and response. Instead of stitching together siloed tools or building internal solutions from scratch, Kenzo provides a data-driven platform that would provide fast insight and be immediately useful.
“We’re a small team. We needed something that would act like an extra set of hands,” says Patrick. “Kenzo became our force multiplier. It gave us smart, risk-based insights that allowed us to triage and respond faster while also freeing us up to focus on deeper architectural prevention methods.”
Within minutes of deployment, Patrick and his team were identifying suspicious patterns of user behavior and tuning detections based on actual autonomously investigated cases, not just assumptions. “Time to value was super fast,” he says. “Kenzo’s data-centric design made it easy to plug in, see what matters, and start reducing risk right away.”
Built-in auditability and response
With a platform that handles regulated data, audit readiness is always top of mind. Kenzo Security helps Truework meet compliance requirements with centralized logging, posture visibility, and detailed activity trails—all accessible in one place.
“The auditability piece is huge,” says Patrick. “I don’t want to dig through three systems to figure out what happened. Kenzo gives us that consolidated view and makes it easy to answer tough questions quickly.”
Kenzo’s alerting capabilities and integrations with Slack also play a major role in Truework’s daily operations. “If a detection gets muted, I get notified. That kind of safety net helps us make sure nothing gets missed, whether it’s a misconfiguration or a potential policy violation,” Patrick explains. “It’s not just about finding problems—it’s about making sure we don’t forget to fix them.”
Engineering-first security at startup speed
Truework’s approach to security is grounded in enablement. By embedding strong baselines and least privilege into engineering workflows, the team can scale securely without becoming a bottleneck.
“We’re not trying to slow anyone down—we’re trying to make it easy to do the right thing,” says Patrick. “Kenzo helps us by taking care of low and medium level issues that allows us to keep building fast.”
The AI-driven approach behind Kenzo Security also resonates deeply with the team’s philosophy. “Security is a data problem,” says Patrick. “Kenzo gets that. Their platform is designed around extracting value from data in a way that’s scalable and extensible. That’s the real differentiator for us.”
Looking ahead, Patrick is excited to expand Kenzo’s footprint across the organization. “The more teams that use it, the more value we all get. It’s not just a security tool—it’s a platform for better decision-making across the board.”
